Q

How do I import my podcasts into iTunes?

A

Firstly you must extract the mp3 files from any ZIP files you may have purchased. See >> Extracting MP3 podcast files from ZIP files. Then start iTunes and click File in the menu, ie top left of the iTunes window. Click "Add Folder to the library" and then navigate to the folder you used to store your podcasts. Click OK and the podcasts will be added to iTunes. Please note that the files are not moved to iTunes but stay in your folder as iTunes simply records where the files are saved. The next time you sync to your iPod they should appear on the iPod list of music to play. Look under Albums then the name of the podcast subject eg Primary FRCA.

Q

What is the format of the podcasts and will they be compatible with my player?

A

The podcasts are in MP3 format which is the most widely used format worldwide. It should be compatible with all MP3 players and mobile phones. In particular, MP3 files are compatible with iTunes which will synchronise with your iPod nano, iPod classic, iPod touch, iPod shuffle or iPhone.

Q

How do I make a CD of your Podcasts which I can play in the CD player in my car?

A

There are 2 types of CD. There is the Audio CD format which is for music that can be bought in the shops. Then there is the CD format which is used by computers such as for the distribution of software.

To be able to play a CD on a normal CD player you must use the Audio CD format. There are many programs that can create an audio CD from MP3 files. If you use iTunes this is easily possible. Here are the instructions....

  • Create a playlist of the Dr Podcast MP3 files you want to listen to.
  • Insert a blank CD-R disc (not a CD-RW disc) into the DVD/CD drive on your computer.
  • Click Burn Disc (at the bottom of the iTunes window).
  • Select Audio CD as the Disc Format.
  • CD players in some vehicles can display information stored on CDs; select Include CD Text to use this option.
  • Click OK.
  • If the playlist contains more songs than will fit on the CD, iTunes burns only the number of songs that fit on one disc, and then asks you to insert another disc to continue burning the remaining songs.

Q

What is the duration of the podcasts?

A

The run time of the podcasts varies from 10 to 20 minutes in duration.

Q

How much space do the podcasts take up on my computer?

A

The podcasts vary from 5Mb to 10Mb in size. They should take about 30 seconds each to download. The group of 90 Primary FRCA podcasts are 550Mb in one large ZIP achieve file. This ZIP file contains the 90 MP3 podcast files and should take about 45 minutes to download on a 2Mb/s broadband internet connection.

Q

Are the 90 Primary FRCA podcasts the same as the 3 lots of 30 Primary FRCA podcasts, ie in each subject?

A

Yes.
