How to Download your Podcasts
After you have paid for your podcasts you will be presented with a page giving you your Netbanx reference number. On this page there is a link to follow to the "Podcasts Purchased Page" where you will see your downloads.
In addition there is a link to this "Podcasts Purchased Page" from the e-mail sent to you from Dr Podcast. Please click on this link which will take you to the login page of the Dr Podcast website where you will find that you are automatically logged in. If you cannot click on this link then copy and paste the whole link into the address bar of your web browser and hit "Return" or click refresh. Highlight the link by dragging the mouse over the text (with the mouse button held down) and use Ctrl-c and Ctrl-v to copy and paste to the address bar. Once logged in, please follow the link on the website which will take you to the page where you can download your podcast/s.
On the "Podcasts Purchased Page" you will see a list of all the podcasts that you have ordered. Each one has a download link. The podcasts must be downloaded one by one.
If you are an Internet Explorer user, please right click on the download link and select "Save Target As..."
If you are a Firefox user, please right click on the download link and select "Save Link As..."
If you are a Safari user on a Mac, please press the Ctrl key on your keyboard and at the same time click on the download link. Then select "Download Linked File As..."
Note that the equivalent of a right click on Windows PC is to press the Ctrl key on your keyboard and at the same time click the mouse on a Mac computer.
In fact if you left click then you should be offered the choice of "Open" or "Save". Select "Save".
You will be invited to select the location on your computer when you wish the download to be saved. We suggest that you create a new folder especially for your podcasts. Once done the download will take place for the file you selected. If you have ordered more than one podcast files then repeat the above procedure until you have all of your podcasts saved on your computer. If you have ordered a group of podcasts as a ZIP file then the download may take a considerable time. For example, a group of 90 podcasts is 545Mb in size and could take 90 minutes to download over a 1Mbs ADSL link.
Extracting MP3 podcast files from ZIP files.
If you had ordered a group of podcasts, such as all 90 podcasts in Primary FRCA, then the downloaded file will be a ZIP file. If so, use your ZIP software to extract the contents of the file to the desired location in your computer. It is usually best to create a new folder especially to receive the MP3 files. ZIP software is usually supplied with Windows and with Macs. The procedure to extract the podcasts from a ZIP file will vary depending on your version of operating system. If you are using windows open Windows Explorer. If you are using a Mac open Finder. To open Windows Explorer in Vista, click on the Start button (bottom left) them "All Programs" then click "Windows Accessories" then click "Windows Explorer". Move the downloaded ZIP file to a newly created folder, eg ("mydrpodcasts" in your personal folder or any subfolder underneath this). Click on the zip file to highlight it. Try a right click and follow a menu item such as "extract zip file" or extract all...". Alternatively double click the ZIP file and you should see its contents listed. For Vista users there should be a button marked "Extract all files" at the top of the list of files. Click this then specify an extract location then click "Extract".
Occasionally some people have had trouble opening ZIP files using Vista. There is a known bug in some builds of Vista which causes this. The cure is outlined on a special page on the Dr Podcast website. See... http://www.dr-podcast.co.uk/zip_problem_01.php Please note that the procedure outlined is for people comfortable with using "Regedit". "Regedit" is a powerful tool to be used with the greatest of caution. If in doubt ask advice from an expert.
If you have problems search for ZIP using the help facility in your computer. The Winzip website can be found at http://www.winzip.com
Apple has included built-in ZIP support in Mac OS X 10.3 and later via the BOMArchiveHelper utility.
Hint: Do not extract a large number of files to the Desktop or it will get too cluttered! Choose or create a suitable directory/folder.
Note: Once you have successfully downloaded your podcasts, they will be removed from the download list. This will occur after a delay of 48 hours so as to give you the chance to retry your download just in case you encountered a download problem. Once your podcasts are in your possession it will be your responsibility to ensure they are safely kept. As with any of your personal data it is suggested that you make back-up copies just in case your computer hard drive fails and you loose the data on it.
Once you have the MP3 podcast files downloaded (or extracted from a ZIP file) then you may upload them to your MP3 player. Please follow the instructions for your player. For iTunes users there is a help item for this on our FAQ page.
The MP3 file format is the most widely used format worldwide. It should be compatible with all MP3 players and mobile phones. In particular, MP3 files are compatible with iTunes which will synchronise with your iPod nano, iPod classic, iPod touch, iPod shuffle or iPhone.
