Q

I use Windows Vista and it will not give me the option to extract my downloaded ZIP file.

A

Problem with Vista where double-clicking or right-clicking a ZIP file does not allow the option to extract the MP3 files.

This is sometimes caused by an error in Windows Vista or by the user specifying non standard software to open a ZIP file (using Open With). One solution to this problem is described below. Please be aware that Dr Podcast has no responsibility for the effects the solution described below will have on your computer. Regedit is a powerful tool to be used with the greatest of caution. If in doubt ask advice from an expert.

The solution:
Run REGEDIT by clicking on START then All Programs then Windows Accessories then Run. Type regedit and click OK.

Navigate to the following branch using the folders in the left hand pane of the Regedit window:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.zip

Delete the sub-key named "UserChoice", ie right click on "UserChoice" in the left hand pane of regedit and select Delete.

Close Regedit.

Go back to Windows explorer and double-click or right-click the ZIP file. The usual Vista functions will hopefully be resored.
